Siemens Healthcare’s Ysio X-ray system installed into acute and community hospitals to serve local region

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has installed three Ysio Direct Digital Radiography systems into its University Hospital of Hartlepool, University Hospital of North Tees and Peterlee Community Hospital sites to improve imaging services for the local community.

The Ysio is a general DR X-ray system offering more than 500 different preset examination positions and fewer work steps during operation to deliver shorter patient examination times and thus increased patient throughput each day. With the ability to handle a greater number of patients, fewer examinations rooms are required.

Jayne Pailor, Operational Lead in Radiology at University Hospital of Hartlepool states, “The Ysio is a great addition to the department and is very flexible and easy for staff to use. The move to a digital general X-ray strategy has been even better than anticipated, with great image quality at a reduced dose. Furthermore, the X-ray room with the Ysio has seen such a significant increase in patient throughput that we are now decreasing the number of rooms we have without any impact on our patient services.”

The Ysio X-ray systems will be used to examine a broad range of patients from the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department, wards and outpatient clinics. The A&E service has greatly improved due to fast image acquisition, allowing patients to be diagnosed and treated earlier. For out-of-hours staff, the Siemens Ysio X-ray room is favoured due to the speed and quality of the images produced.

“A general X-ray strategy that focuses on the high throughput trauma departments at main acute hospitals and also the walking wounded at community centres provides a joined up DR approach. This means radiographers gain the power of digital imaging and a smoother workflow that can deliver imaging service efficiencies,” said Neil Lincoln, Northern Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare. “We are very pleased that The North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust are gaining productivity benefits already.”
