BRHC supports centralisation of specialist paediatric services with three new C-armsThe Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (B.R.H.C) is going through an expansion to facilitate the centralisation of all specialist children's services in a single, state-of-the-art children's hospital.

To support an increase in workload, the hospital has invested in three A.R.C.A.D.I.S® Varic C-arms from Siemens Healthcare to provide treatment for local Bristol children plus specialist care for children across the South West and nationally.

The three A.R.C.A.D.I.S Varics, which are in use 24/7, are being used for general surgery in addition to specialist spinal, neurosurgery, plastic and orthopaedic procedures.

The technology is also supporting the hospital’s established Paediatric Cardiac Unit for the treatment of children with congenital heart problems.

The systems are ensuring optimum safety for young patients and staff with dose reduction features such as a dose free collimation and multi-level dose control.

“We selected the A.R.C.A.D.I.S Varic following an evaluation of a number of systems. Staff were already familiar with the system, so ease of use was also a deciding factor,” states Elin Jones, Superintendent Paediatric Radiographer at The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

“They sit in our newly refurbished department which has a relaxing ambience and child-focussed decor to ensure the best possible experience for our young patients and their families.”

The system’s mobile C-arm is counterbalanced removing the need for it to be locked into place, enhancing ease of use for clinicians and providing easy patient access.

The system’s compact and lightweight trolley also features large 19” dual T.F.T monitors for high-quality image visualisation.

This is boosted further by the Varic’s syngo user interface, enabling fast and intuitive system operation, image post-processing and networking.

Darren Parker, Regional Sales Manager at Siemens Healthcare states: “Siemens Healthcare is delighted to provide three A.R.C.A.D.I.S Varic systems which have aided the expansion of Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The technology is ideal for children due to the dose saving features which allow the lowest appropriate dose, in turn putting staff and patients’ family’s minds at ease.”
