Philips Healthcare, a major company providing diagnostic imaging system and healthcare IT solutions, announced that it has acquired Shanghai Apex Electronics Technology, a company manufacturing ultrasound transducers based in Shanghai, China. Philips Healthcare aims to establish a strong position for itself in the ultrasound emerging markets such as China.

Steve Rusckowski, CEO of Philips Healthcare, said “Strengthening our ultrasound capabilities in these markets is essential, as ultrasound is a critical yet affordable and mobile modality for early diagnosis and real-time imaging,” By acquiring Shngahai Apex, Philips Healthcare moves another step towards strengthening its position in emerging markets. Philips has recently purchased two India-based companies, Meditronics and Alpha X-Ray Technologies, along with Shenzhen Goldway Industrial, a medical device manufacturer from China, in addition to a couple of companies in Brazil, VMI Sistemas Medicos and Dixtal.
