Pericardial defect

  • Partial absence of the pericardium vs. complete
  • Male: female 3:1, seen 1/13000
  • May be associated with other anomalies
  • Most asymptomatic, but herniation of the heart with strangulation, may result in death
Shift of heart to the left with normal midline structures Elongation of left heart border.
Lucency between aortic arch and main pulmonary artery represents lung herniation.
Lung tissue between arch and pulmonary artery
