Responsibilities
- Oversees operation of each of the department assigned through subordinate managers and supervisors.
- Approves all hiring and discharge of hospital and contract employees; evaluates work of subordinate managers and supervisors.
- Formulates and recommends annual operating and capital budget and staffing levels to senior management and Finance. Works with department heads on identifying their capital budget requirements.
- Develops policies and procedures consistent with sound medical and business practice and as required by JCAHO and other regulatory agencies.
- Assures compliance with regulatory, insurance and ethical standards regarding safety of patients, employees and property; identifies contingency plans to deal with potential risks.
- Establishes goals and objectives for each department that are consistent with Medical Center policies and state regulations..
- Resolves problems and improves services by maintaining cooperative working relationships with regulatory agencies, department heads, vendors, consultants, physicians, etc.
- Chairs department committees and participates in hospital committees as assigned.
- Oversee day to day administration of the Ophthalmology, including physicians/faculty, fellows and administrative and ancillary clinical staff.
- Authorize and process new hires, terminations, and all human resources functions.
- Facilitates appointments and promotions process of current and new faculty.
- Develops policies and procedures that are consistent with sound medical and business practices.
- Works with FPA management to improve processes and operations.
- Marketing and business development of programs and services.
- Maintain oversight of all regulatory compliances with regard to research, clinical and educational activities.
- Prepare and administer divisional budgets, faculty practice, grants, gifts, and endowments.
- Review monthly ledgers, compare to fiscal budget and business plans, and take corrective actions.
- Review and monitor current and pending Federal and Non-Federal grants.
- Manage clinical revenues and ensure proper billing and collection from external billing company including monitoring of lock box, contracts and over-site of all necessary patient related documentation is received by the billing company in a timely fashion.
- Perform various financial analysis for P&L reviews, program development, short and long term planning.
- Financial reporting of all program and business units.
- Conducts research and analysis of new technologies to improve services, reduce costs and increase revenues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in related field
- 5-7 years of Managerial experience required. Healthcare exp
- Must have the ability to make decisions autonomously.
- Ability to manage the department effectively in the absence of the Chairman.
- Creative, intuitive, resourceful detail orientated.
- Ophthalmology experience preferred.
