PACS news December 1, 2011—Chicago—The Antillean Adventist Hospital in Curacao, Netherland Antilles, part of the Adventist Health Network, has selected CoActiv EXAM-PACS® for the management, communication and archiving of its multi-modality digital images. Following recent disastrous flooding that destroyed its original PACS, the busy hospital needed an advanced, cost-effective digital solution to quickly provide reliable access to its imaging exams. It selected CoActiv EXAM-PACS after a comprehensive search of a broad range of vendors.

According to Cirino de Lima, IT coordinator for the imaging site, the hospital’s entire radiology department had received extensive damage due to a heavy storm and a broken levee. A key goal of the project was to maximize the number of images recovered from the water soaked servers while quickly installing a new PACS with a full range of features and functionalities that would cater to both the site’s specific needs and very limited budget.

To speed the process and minimize expenses, CoActiv was able to set up all key elements of the PACS solution in the U.S., ship it to this island off the coast of Venezuela, and then send a CoActiv PACS engineer to handle onsite installation, integration and training.

“We worked closely with Antillean Adventist Hospital to create a PACS solution that met their needs and to have it up and running quickly and efficiently, with easy start-up and training for the hospital staff,” says Ed Heere, CEO and president of CoActiv. “Shortly after installation of the PACS, the imaging department was up and running faster and better than it had been before. The site was so pleased with CoActiv EXAM-PACS’s performance they plan to install our fully integrated EXAM-RIS® soon.”

The complete digital imaging solution included both a full EXAM-PACS and a redundant onsite archive. Mirrored storage devices were placed in separate buildings in locations protected from future water damage, and the system was up and running within days.
