Thanks to the system’s advanced, redundant architecture, CoActiv clients have not experienced a second of down time throughout the product’s history. For secure primary archiving of DICOM and non-DICOM imaging related data, EXAM-CLOUD (formerly EXAM-VAULT), features advanced VNA technology and quad-redundant storage in four separate locations.  At RSNA 2012, this flagship offering is joined by EXAM-VAULT back up, similarly optimized for reliable, secure image storage with many of the same quality features as EXAM-CLOUD. “Now CoActiv offers the two best vendor neutral archiving solutions available,” says Ed Heere, president and CEO of CoActiv.  “Along with proven technology, we offer a peerless track record with not a single image lost in more than nine years. TeraMedica Debuts New Evercore VNA Control Center at …

(November 21, 2012- MILWAUKEE, WI) TeraMedica debuts at the 2012 RSNA conference its next generation Evercore VNA Control Center with a streamlined graphical interface and range of features that enhance its power as an enterprise-wide data management and analysis tool. The new interface simplifies VNA configuration, maintenance, quality assurance checks and data access. It enables definition of new data sets and storage policies within the application, without the addition of tables at the underlying database level. The interface also enables creation of a variety of customized screen features based on site or department needs. New progressive intelligent information presentation brings the appropriate data directly to users to pare down time-consuming searches and to leverage the VNA for information gathering and analytics. “Ultimately, the Control Center will support greater customization of the Evercore technology to meet individual hospital needs and to simplify access to site-defined functionalities,” says Mark Wheeler, Vice President of Product Development for TeraMedica.  “Users will be able to gather and analyze customized data related to both VNA function as well as to diverse department- and hospital-wide clinical, administrative and business issues. TeraMedica is unique among VNA vendors in its commitment to enabling users to leverage the full value of VNA data.” As a fully integrated enterprise-wide data repository, a VNA offers almost unlimited potential to gather information, track trends and provide intelligence useful to today’s hospital.  Wheeler notes that VNA data could be used to assess the availability of hardware storage space over time based on usage patterns, to measure the utilization and profitability of medical equipment and to track the need for additional hospital physical space based on departmental trends. Access to this information can be enabled with appropriate built-in VNA tools or add-on applications. “The availability of such information gives hospitals a strategic edge in today’s rapidly evolving healthcare environment. With its new Control Center, TeraMedica takes the lead in helping users realize greater value from their VNA technology.” To streamline implementation for existing installations, TeraMedica will expand Control Center functionality over time as part of a multi-stage process. Phase one enhancements, which are being introduced at RSNA, include a completely new look and feel as well as more intuitive, streamlined operation.  The technology also will feature powerful, redesigned dashboards supporting ultra-fast display of VNA functions and stored data. The initial release also will enable configuration of highly customized screens with site-specific icons and toolsets that bring access to desired information under simple mouse click control. Phase two will include even greater customization options as well as other additions. “In this release, a major enhancement will be our intelligent presentation of information,” stresses Wheeler. “Once a user initiates a search or accesses particular data, Evercore will automatically present users with related information as they click deeper in menus and links. Much of the Control Center design is based on our dialoguing with users and represents our commitment to meeting their vision for the future of VNA technology. ” About TeraMedica® Inc. Advanced PACS Functionality for Non-Radiologists November 21, 2012—Ridgefield, CT—At RSNA 2012, CoActiv debuts Exam-Essentials Plus, a sophisticated, robust addition to its popular Exam-Essentials line of turnkey PACS solutions that enable growing medical practices to transition easily and affordably to complete digital imaging workflow.  Like the original Exam-Essentials products, the new offering provides complete, affordable, and easy to use and install technology requiring no special internet connectivity. New Exam-Essentials Plus is a customer driven natural evolution of CoActiv’s original entry level product suited both for sites adding EMR applications and adopting a more sophisticated electronic workflow that extends beyond a simple DICOM viewer and for smaller multi-physician or specialty practices that offer multi-modality imaging in a variety of use cases.  The original offering is the choice for practices with a low to medium imaging volume that require more modest digital image management capabilities.  Both Exam-Essentials offerings overcome the price and ongoing maintenance barriers that have traditionally discouraged such practices from converting to a PACS. Exam-Essentials Plus includes all required hardware and software, with no additional set up fees or hidden charges.  It is a simple, yet sophisticated plug-and-play solution.  As a practice’s imaging needs expand, the Exam-Essentials family offers an easy and economical upgrade path to the enterprise-wide power of CoActiv EXAM-PACS®, the company’s flagship full-featured PACS utilized by hundreds of radiologists nationwide. All Exam-Essentials solutions deliver state-of-the-art image viewing tools, from window/level and zoom to advanced region of interest (ROI) viewing, multiple image overlays, annotation and more. The applications also provide a multitude of system defaults, customizable by users, modalities and workstations. Along with full-featured radiology workflow, Exam-Essentials Plus offers optional specialized functionalities for use in other imaging specialties such as orthopaedics. The system is cloud ready for instant plug-in to CoActiv’s off-site archiving, which supports web-based image distribution with the addition of the CoActiv zero-footprint viewer.  An optional HL7 feed also provides integration with RIS or EMR applications. Exam-Essentials Plus is complete a hardware/software bundle. All configurations include EXAM-PACS software, a robust network-ready server platform with substantial RAID 5 storage and an auto backup system. “Exam-Essentials Plus fills an important unmet need in the marketplace,” comments Ed Heere, president and CEO of CoActiv.  “While the purchase and maintenance of a large PACS require a significant budget, the benefits of digital imaging are enormous. This technology enables medical practices with relatively modest imaging volumes, particularly those beyond radiology, to enter the digital imaging age.” About CoActiv CoActiv Medical® is a leading healthcare software and IT systems provider offering a full line of PACS, digital image and data storage services and related solutions for hospitals, imaging facilities and medical practices of all sizes.  CoActiv’s EXAM-PACS® family of web-based PACS solutions provide leading edge, affordable and scalable image management with sophisticated tools that cater to the needs of radiologists as well as a full range of other imaging specialists.  Available as both enterprise server-based and cloud-based solutions, EXAM-PACS is designed for easy integration into imaging facilities of any size. Comprised of modular software components, EXAM-PACS enables any site to customize a solution to meet their specific needs and budgets or to add advanced functionality to an existing PACS solution. Orthopaedic Surgical Associates Select Viztek for …

Cites High Image Quality and Simple Set Up Raleigh, November 6, 2012 – Orthopaedic Surgical Associates (OSA) in North Chelmsford, MA has selected Viztek’s Opal-ORTHO PACS and U-Arm digital radiography (DR) systems for a full conversion to digital imaging. The busy nine-physician practice believes that the technology makes imaging simpler and faster for patients, physicians and technologists. OSA staff note that the DR image quality is superior and film management is significantly more manageable. OSA is a broad sub-specialty practice with services ranging from sports medicine and spine surgery to joint replacement. “We have a significant image volume and sought a high quality, efficient and affordable integrated imaging solution,” explains Dawn DiVitto, office manager for the practice. “OSA had just moved to a new location prior to the installation and had not used digital technology previously. We implemented Viztek’s specialized Opal-ORTHO PACS along with three U-Arm DR rooms. It has been a tremendously positive experience all around.” According to DiVitto, the U-Arm configuration provides numerous advantages over a fixed system. Positioning is extremely flexible and managed through an easy-to-use remote control feature, which significantly simplifies exam set up. “Patients simply sit in a fixed location and are much more relaxed than with the previous cassette-based analog acquisition device.  Staff spends less time repositioning heavy, difficult-to-move equipment. At the touch of a button, the U-Arm system moves easily and precisely to the optimal placement. The system simplifies imaging for both patients and technologists,” she comments. Physicians report the images are high quality, and using Opal-ORTHO can be recalled easily.  Images can also be transported to the OR on CD or flash drives, eliminating the need to hand carry large, unwieldy films.   In addition, the frequency of exam repeats is lower because physicians can adjust contrast and other settings.  “This means less radiation for patients—another benefit,” notes DiVitto. OSA’s practice frequently necessitates complex exams, such as spinal imaging and long bone. The latter involves stitching two images together.  “With the device’s sophisticated software, this isn’t difficult at all,” she comments. “When we first put in the system many of our staff were somewhat apprehensive about the move to digital,” she concludes. “However, after several weeks of use, we surveyed the practice—and no one would ever want to go back.” OSA’s x-ray department was designed and installed by the local New England Radiology distributor Associated X-Ray Imaging Corporation (AXI), based in Haverhill, Massachusetts. AXI President, John Olenio, adds, “We have installed the Viztek solution into many small and large medical facilities throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts converting them painlessly to the exciting and efficient digital world.” “AXI did a phenomenal job identifying the needs of the customer and finding the best fit solution with Viztek’s Digital Product Suite,” Viztek’s VP of Sales, Steve Deaton, notes. About Viztek Viztek is a leading provider of complete digital software and hardware imaging solutions, backed by comprehensive training and support. The company’s state-of-the-art Opal-RAD PACS and RIS suite delivers advanced connectivity and functionality at an affordable price.  Web-based architecture, with ultra-fast image streaming, ensures timely, efficient communications throughout the enterprise and beyond.
