ATLANTA, Feb. 16, 2012 – McKesson recently announced that Self Regional Healthcare plans to be a demonstrator site for the company’s accountable care solution set, designed to support providers as they transition from fee-for-service to value-based reimbursement. A powerful example of McKesson’s Better Health 2020 strategy, the solution set leverages capabilities across four major segments of healthcare – hospitals, physicians, pharmacies and payers – to support organizations as they assume greater financial risk now and throughout the decade. The offering includes connectivity, market-leading analytics, population management, care coordination and new payment solutions needed to support accountable care. In addition, McKesson’s neutral approach to the challenge enables multi-payer support and works in concert with a provider’s existing McKesson and third-party clinical and financial systems.

Self Regional plans to support accountable care for its self-insured health plan, Self Cares, as well as expanded services to manage the population health of large employer groups in its area. Through the Self Cares plan, Self Regional provides healthcare coverage to approximately 2,200 employees and their dependents, for a total of approximately 5,000 covered lives. The plan enables beneficiaries to gain access to health assessments along with diet, exercise and smoking cessation programs.

With the McKesson accountable care offering, Self Regional is deploying: Connectivity tools to improve coordination of care among providers and settings, including a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) model to transform care delivery Analytics tools for enterprise intelligence that integrate clinical, financial and operational data Tools for coordinating and managing populations Solutions for managing complex payment models.
