Covidien said "it will work with the Maria Research Reactor to produce the radioactive isotope Technetium 99m, which is made with Molybdenum 99"

According to this joint venture, the new isotope will be used in diagnosis of cancer, kidney and heart elements of millions of patients in Europe.

"Meanwhile, U.S. and Canadian health authorities are weighing approval for the use of the isotope in their respective countries", Covidien said in a statement.
