Persistent Left SVC

  • Images show a catheter inserted into a left vascular structure on plain film. The MR shows the Persistent Left SVC. MR also shows what was described in the text as splenic nodules
  • A left superior vena cava results from persistence of the left anterior cardinal vein. This usually occurs in association with congenital heart disease. Typically, the left SVC drains to the right atrium via the coronary sinus, but occasionally it can drain directly into the left atrium
  • Duplication of the superior vena cava is more common and is even more often associated with congenital heart disease. It can be associated with anomalous pulmonary venous return. Similar to the isolated left superior vena cave, the left moiety typically drains into the coronary sinus
